Original British Late 18th Century Naval Copper Pint Tankard Marked with “STAND FAST” and Fouled Anchor

Item Description

Original Item: One of a Kind. This is a very nice late 18th Century British Naval Copper Tankard, which looks to have a capacity of about an imperial Pint. The tankard looks great, standing a full 5" tall, its wide bottom is 4 1/2" across and it is 3 1/4" wide at the mouth. It is fitted with a large sheet copper handle, which is fitted at the top and bottom. Like most of these we see, the body is made from sheet copper, with a brazed seam under the handle, and a crimped on base. These were also plated with tin on the inside to keep the copper from affecting the flavor of drinks, which is why the interior looks black

The side of the tankard has a Naval "Fouled Anchor" engraving, and the other side is marked:-

STAND
FAST

Dating from the late 18th century, this was very possibly in use during the Napoleonic Wars, and maybe afterwards. Polished from being on display for many years.

Very appealing, and ready to display!
