Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice service-worn example of an early American-Made Militia rifleman’s bag with a small period-correct integral powder horn with its original leather straps still connected. The leather of the bag shows heavy period repairs but the leather strap still looks to be in good order. The front flap of the bag is mostly torn in half in the middle but is still well-attached.
The rifleman’s bag is of the correct period construction. The front has an intact flap which shows heavy tattering and breakage in the center. The leather strap is in good shape overall with two straps connecting to the “integral” powder horn. The leather is actually pliable in spots but as it’s incredibly old we wouldn’t recommend testing that too much.
The front of the bag has some patterned slits in the leather. This is a very good overall set, and it’s very difficult to find the set complete like this. The leather strap is connected in the middle by a metal ring.
The powder horn is a small example, roughly 6 ½” long with heavy breakage of the horn material as shown. We are not sure if the stitching of the straps connecting to the horn are of the original period or added in the 19th century.
This is a lovely but very worn set that requires some love and care. A great Revolutionary War era rifleman’s set, ready for further research and display.
