Original 1775 American Revolution British Named Officer Silver Mounted Sword
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a splendid silver-hilted and hallmarked officer's small sword, complete in its original black leather silver mounted scabbard. Four hallmarks are found on the hand guard and are WB (maker William Bagnall), Lion passant guardant, Thistle for Edinburgh, and dated letter code of R for 1771-1772.
The blade is 27.5 in length and is of the Colichemarde type. It bears various decorative engravings, and shows some patches of old pitting. Has an interesting a hand painted museum/collection reference in white immediately in front of the guard.
The scabbard top mount bears an engraving on the inner side that reads:
Samuel Baggot was a known British Officer in the Light Dragoons that arrived in North America very late in 1775 or early 1776. He did not return to England until 1783.
A really lovely light weapon, clearly from a gentleman with the added bonus of his being an identified British Officer who saw extensive service during the American Revolutionary War.
