Original Item: Only One Available. This is a nice set of WWII issue Japanese army officer binoculars in original tropical carry case, offered in very good condition. The binoculars are fully functional, with each side having an independent focus diopter control. Optics are mostly clear, and able to focus accurately, though the interior mirrors and optics could definitely use a cleaning.
The binoculars are marked YAMATO on the back of the left barrel, a known manufacture of binoculars during the WWII Period. It’s also marked with the Serial Number No. 5252 and some Kanji. The right barrel is marked with the specifications of the binoculars: 7X 50 mm / 7.1°.
The overall condition is very good, with the covering for the barrels retained well, and light wear overall, with great paint. There is some wear through on the fittings, but that is expected for an item of this age which was used during WWII. The neck strap is retained, a thin leather example.
The case looks to be of hard pressed paper construction with a tropical canvas cover. Some components are leather reinforced, such as the securing strap. The interior is lined with canvas, and does not really have any supports for the binoculars. The inside of the top cover has two cotton supports for sun filters, but both are missing. The closure system is heavily crazed and cracking but still present. The case retains its canvas & leather carrying strap as well as the woven canvas belt loop. There is some Kanji writing on the exterior and under the lid.
Approximate dimensions are 8 1/2" x 8" x 4". Overall a great addition to any WWII Pacific Collection.
