  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is an outstanding example of a U.S. Navy WWII 16mm Gun Camera which was modified during the war, with an NAF1174-1 grip attached to the bottom. This was done by the Navy during the war, so that pilots could document bomb damage results. There is very little documentation on these modified cameras, with the only solid evidence we could find being from the Houston Wing, Commemorative Air Force, who has two of these cameras in their museum collection, along with photos that they are confident were taken over the Pacific on this type of camera.

    The data plate reads:

    U.S. NAVY-BU. OF ORD.
    GUN CAMERA 16m/m
    VOLTS 24 AN TYPE N-6A
    WT. 2.75LBS. SERIAL NO. 44250
    MADE BY
    BELL & HOWELL CO.
    CHICAGO, ILL.

The camera has an amber-colored lens in good shape, but the internals show that the camera may not be functional right now. The grip was attached under the camera and a small tripod mount was added under the front as well. This is a really tremendous piece that we likely won’t ever see another of.

A great camera modified by the Navy for use in documenting bomb damage. Ready for display!
