  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is a signed print of “Fourth Fighter Patrol” by Robert Taylor, signed at the bottom by four of the most distinguished fighter pilots to fly Mustangs during WWII. All of them were volunteers, flying with the RAF Eagle Squadrons, before transferring to the 4th Fighter Group when America entered the war. They were all highly decorated by both the USAAF and the RAF. The frame is well-put together and the print is very clear. This is a limited run print, numbered 288/1000.

Climbing on full power amongst the deep lines of the evening cumulus clouds over Northern France, the P-51 Mustangs of the famous Fourth Fighter Group have penetrated deep into enemy territory.  Ahead of a large formation of B-17s they will shortly intercept the Fw190s of the Luftwaffe.  With long range fuel tanks already jettisoned, the P-51s are ready for battle.  Flown by the experienced aces of the “Fighting Fourth” they will acquit themselves well.

WWII’s most successful offensive fighter aircraft, the P-51 Mustang, is majestically portrayed in this spectacular painting by Robert Taylor.  The aircraft seemingly fly off the canvas, whilst the deep fire colors of the sunset cloudscape provide a mellow backdrop to the metallic determination of the P-51 pilots.

It is of great historical importance that the prints in this edition are personally autographed by four of the most distinguished fighter pilots to fly Mustangs during WWII. They include:

Colonel DON BLAKESLEE – 4th Fighter Group / 14½ victories
Colonel JAMES GOODSON – 4th Fighter Group / 15 victories
    Major General CHESLEY G. PETERSON – 4th Fighter Group / 10 victories
Lieutenant Colonel JIM CLARK – 4th Fighter Group / 16 victories

This stunning piece is one of the most sought after in Robert Taylor’s extensive portfolio and now seldom becomes available on the secondary market.

The frame measures 30½ x 39½” and is in great shape with a functional hanging wire.

An outstanding print, ready to hang and display!
