This is an original German WWII Luftwaffe officer Fahrzeug Stabsflagge, or rigid vehicle staff pennant, for a Flak Artillery battalion level command, accompanied by an aluminum trench art Luftwaffe eagle. The pennant is double sided, of multi-piece construction, and measures approximately 10 3/8" in hoist by 17" in fly. It retains its rigid internal frame, thick protective plastic covering, mounting sleeves, and white chain stitched early style Luftwaffe eagles on both sides.

Personal and unit command pennants were a long established German military tradition and were continued by the Luftwaffe, with regulations for vehicle and command pennants appearing from the mid 1930s onward. Battalion level command pennants of this type were mounted prominently on official vehicles when the commanding officer was present.

This example is constructed around a rigid internal metal frame and retains two metal extensions at the hoist, each fitted with a mounting sleeve for attachment to the vehicle. The entire pennant is enclosed within a thick transparent plastic covering intended to protect the textile body and insignia from weather and road exposure.

The field is of multi-piece construction and carries white chain stitched early pattern Luftwaffe eagles on both sides. The color arrangement consists of:

which is consistent with Luftwaffe Flak Artillery battalion level command use, with Deep Red (Tiefrot) being the Corps Color (Waffenfarbe) for Flak and other Artillery forces in the Luftwaffe.

The protective plastic covering remains fully intact but has yellowed somewhat with age. The colors beneath remain relatively vibrant. The metal mounting extensions projecting from the hoist show some bending from use or storage but remain present.

Accompanying the pennant is an aluminum trench art Luftwaffe eagle measuring approximately:

7 1/2" wide x 3 7/8" high

The eagle faces to the right and carries an engraved Luftwaffe eagle design. It remains in very good condition with no major damage noted.

Overall condition of the pennant is very good, especially considering its age and intended vehicle use. The rigid frame, plastic covering, mounting sleeves, textile field, and chain stitched insignia all remain intact. The principal condition issues are age yellowing to the plastic and bending to the mounting extensions.

With its Flak Artillery battalion command color arrangement, double sided chain stitched Luftwaffe eagles, rigid vehicle mounting construction, surviving protective plastic covering, and accompanying aluminum trench art eagle, this is a distinctive German WWII Luftwaffe vehicle command set.
