Original Items. Only One Lot Available. This is a very scarce set of three German-made broadside posters meant to promote recruitment from occupied nations including France and Belgium. There are three in total, and each has been mounted onto a large piece of particle board, likely done by a collector decades ago. Because of their awkward size and nature, we are selling them all together, which would make for an exciting display opportunity.
The first is in French and is titled “L’Europe au Front / La Legion des volontaires francais” or “Europe at the Front / The Legion of French Volunteers”. It notes that France was defeated in the War against Germany, but that they did not reject the hand extended to them, but rather joined the ranks of those who are “Fighting for a New Europe”. The particle board measures 27 ¼ x 35 ⅛” and the poster itself measures 23 ¼ x 33 ¼”. It is dated 1943. There is heavy water damage to the particle board.
The second poster is also in French and is titled “KIEV - la plus grande victoire sur l’ennemi mortel de l’Europe!” or “KIEV - The greatest victory over Europe’s hammered enemy!”. This poster discusses the conclusion of the Battle of Kiev, and how it is such a substantial victory that history has not known until now. This poster is in the worst condition of the three, with heavy tearing and loss of material across. The particle board measures 29 ½ x 38” and the poster itself measures 24¼ x 33⅜”. There is heavy water damage to the particle board. This poster is dated 1941.
The third and final poster is in French, but is marketed toward the people of Wallonia, Belgium, and is titled “Les Wallons combattent pour la liberte de l’Europe”, or “The Walloons fight for the freedom of Europe!” Walloons are a Gallo-Romance ethnic group native to Wallonia, Belgium. The poster discusses how the Walloons proved themselves as powerful warriors, worthy of their tradition. Bolshevism is a disease that must be culled from Europe. There is some damage to the poster. The particle board is 29 ¾ x 38 ¼”, and the poster itself is 24 ¼ x 33 ¾”.
This is an outstanding lot of extremely scarce posters mounted on particle board. It would not be too difficult to cut them out to be properly framed, but they will still display fine as is. Ready for further research and display!
