Original Item: This model was one of the most widely used optical rangefinders in the German Wehrmacht during WWII. In the words of one German source, A light rangefinder for all branches of the service, especially suitable for moving targets on the ground and in the air.
The rangefinder is marked on one panel:
blc
144312
And on another panel:
Em 1m R.
m. f. M.
Vergr. 8x
Lattenabstand
1650cm
The code blc denotes manufacture by the Carl Zeiss, Jena, Militärabteilung, a specialist lens maker, and one of the finest makers of optics at the time. They designed many of the optics used by Germany during WWII, and continue to produce world class lenses and other optics to this day.
The rangefinder retains the original braided leather carry strap, which is now weak with material coming off at the touch.
We have not tested the rangefinder to see if it works as we don’t have a tripod for it. The rangefinder is roughly 43¼” long.
A worn but good overall example, ready for display.
