  • Original Item: Only one available. Here we have a very interesting early British Percussion Dragoon pistol, which we believe was introduced around 1840, though it does not quite match up to the patterns we have seen. It has the correct shaped lobed butt cap and characteristic side plate, however the bore is extremely large at 0.75". We feel it may have used an EIC musket barrel, and it is possible that it was assembled from parts in India or another British colony in the area.

The barrel is definitely British make, and bears the CROWN / CROSSED SCEPTERS / BPC "proof" and CROWN / CROSSED SCEPTERS / V "viewed" marks from the English city of Birmingham, used from 1813 to 1855 for black powder arms. We do not see any breech plug seam, so we believe it was originally made as percussion. The lock has a double line border, and is marked with TOWER under the cap bolster and with a QUEEN'S CROWN on the tail. As there is no "V.R.", it was made for private sale, not military issue. The hammer definitely looks to be British manufacture, and we tested the lock, which is fully functional, holding at half cock and firing at full.

Overall condition is very nice, and it is definitely quite substantially built, as it would have to be for having such a large bore. A very interesting piece of British Colonial firearms history, ready to research and display!
