U.S. WWII Named Currahee Scrapbook: 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment 20 July 1942 - 4 July 1945

Item Description

Original Item: One-of-a-kind. Original 1945 publications of this book are exceptionally rare, but one that belonged to a member of the 506th who fought on D-Day, in the Battle of the Bulge and through to VE Day and is inscribed by him is just fantastic!

The inside cover of this book in handwritten ink reads:
P.F.C. Philip C. Cobb
101st Airborne Div.
506th Prcht. Inf. Divi.
3rd Battalion
Co. I
3rd Platoon
.30 Caliber Light Machine Gunner

The book begins with a message from Colonel Sink and reads:
“It is the intent to reproduce herein a pictorial representation of what you’ve done in fighting this war. The scrapbook has its genesis in the activation of the regiment 20 July 1942. It will cover your training, your fighting, your play. It’s exodus is to be that day when the last man of the 506th makes his final jump and becomes, himself, eternal in the heavens.” R.F. Sink Colonel, 506th Parachute Infantry, Commanding

Scrapbook Includes:
- Portfolio of Command and Staff
- Complete Listing of KIA and MIA
- Training at Camp Toccoa, Camp Mackall and more.
- Invasion of Normandy, Liberation of Holland, Fighting in Bastogne and more.
- 7 Full-size maps depicting critical regimental action from 19 December 1944 through 17 January 1945

The first map in hand written ink reads:

I was in I Co. Third Battalion, 506 Reg.
I fought at Foy Made Two Night Patrols to Noville
Germans Took Noville Later

The book is in overall very good condition with typical minor soiling and creasing. Maps are still all attached to one another but are loose from the book itself.

Philip Cobb passed on March 7, 2005 at the age of 87. His obituary can be found at this link.
