  • One-of-a-kind. This is an incredibly detailed gorgeously custom built 1:20 scale wood model. We believe it dates from he late 1980s and was not assembled from a kit. It measures approximately 48" L x 13" W x 15" H and comes with a custom made wood stand. The boat weighs approximately  20 lbs. It is constructed of wood with some plastic and metal fittings. It was originally designed to be a RC (radio controlled0 watercraft as the props and rudders are connected to internal servo motors and top of the deck has a small power switch next to black and red jacks. However, there is no controller and we did not even attempt to open it in order to gain access to the internal components. Overall condition is very good but a few small parts have broken off and are missing or have been glued back on.

PT-109 was an 80' Elco PT boat (patrol torpedo boat) last commanded by Lieutenant (junior grade) John F. Kennedy, future United States president, in the Solomon Islands campaign of the Pacific theater during World War II. Kennedy's actions in saving his surviving crew after PT-109 was rammed and sunk by a Japanese destroyer earned him several commendations and made him a war hero. Back problems stemming from the incident required months of hospitalization at Chelsea Naval Hospital and plagued him the rest of his life. Kennedy's postwar campaigns for elected office referred often to his service on PT-109.
