U.S. WWII German Anti-Tank Tellermine Training Set: T.Mi. 35, T.Mi.42, T.Mi.43

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Set Available. This is a three mine set built by the United States in order to train their troops on how to deactivate live teller mines in the occupied Europe. All mines are totally inert, hollow, and marked dummy in yellow paint on the underside. This set is comprised of the three types of teller mines used in WWII with fuses as follows-

The Tellermine 35 (T.Mi.35) was a German metal cased anti-tank mine used extensively during the Second World War. The mine's case is made of sheet steel, and has a slightly convex pressure plate on the top surface with a central fuze well. Two secondary fuze wells are located on the side and bottom of the mine for anti-handling devices. For use on beaches and underwater the mine could be deployed inside a specially designed earthenware or concrete pot, which acted as a waterproof jacket for the mine. Pressure of 400 pounds (180 kg) on the center of the mine or 200 pounds (90 kg) on its edge deforms the pressure plate compressing a spring, and breaking a shear pin which holds back the spring-loaded striker. Once the striker is released it flips downwards into a percussion cap which fires the adjacent detonator followed by the booster charge and then the main explosive filling of TNT.

Specifications:

Height: 76 mm

Diameter: 318 mm

Weight: 9.1 kg

Explosive content: 5.5 kg of TNT

Trigger weight: 90 to 180 kg

The Tellermine 42 (T.Mi.42) was a German metal cased anti-tank blast mine used during the Second World War. The mine was a development of the Tellermine 35 with improved resistance to blast. It was followed by the simplified Tellermine 43. The mine consists of a circular pressed steel main body with a large central pressure fluted steel plate. The pressure plate is smaller than the earlier Tellermine 35, which increases the mine's resistance to blast. Two secondary fuze wells are provided for anti-handling devices, one in the side, and one on the bottom of the mine. The mine has a carrying handle.

Specifications:

Height: 102 mm

Diameter: 324 mm

Weight: 9.1 kg

Explosive content: 5.5 kg of TNT or 50/50 Amatol

Trigger weight: 100 to 180 kg

The Tellermine 43 (T.Mi.43) was a German circular steel cased anti-tank blast mine used during the Second World War. It was a simplified version of the Tellermine 42, which enabled simpler production techniques. Between March 1943 and the end of World War II, over 3.6 million Tellermine 43s were produced by Germany.

The casing of the mine is circular, rising towards the center with a large flat pressure plate. A rectangular metal carrying handle is fitted to the side of the mine. The pressure plate sits over the fuze well which can hold either a T.Mi.Z.42 shear pin fuze or T.Mi.Z.43 ball release fuze. The mine is armed by removing the pressure plate, inserting a fuze, then screwing the pressure plate back on again. At the bottom of the fuze well is a PETN booster charge, surrounded by the doughnut-shaped main charge of TNT. The mine has secondary fuze wells on the side and base to enable anti-handling devices to be fitted. Additionally, the T.Mi.Z.43 fuze contains an anti-tampering device i.e. once the fuze has been armed, it automatically triggers detonation if anyone attempts to remove the fuze by unscrewing the pressure plate. As a result, armed T.Mi.Z.43 fuzes cannot safely be disarmed and therefore Tellermines fitted with this fuze type should be destroyed in situ. This mine can also be fitted with a tilt rod fuze, screwed into to the side fuze well.
