Original Item: Only One Available. This is a near mint condition WWII US Navy M-69F leather Transport Pilot Aircraft coat in amazing condition. It is a heavy insulated leather knee length coat. The tag is missing but the reverse of the collar is nicely marked USN in white paint. It is a large size 42 US.
The leather is soft and supple and in great condition. Has a beautiful mouton "fur" collar and fine Alpaca lining. There is no damage from moth and the cuffs are in perfect condition, comes complete with leather belt (so often missing). This is one of the nicest M-69F jackets you will find.
The M-69F was used by Navy Transport pilots during world war two on long haul runs across the Atlantic or on submarine patrols. Also, often seen on the backs also of middle and senior officers at sea (USN Commanders, etc).
These have not caught on in the collector market the way the A-2 jacket has yet during the time the cost to produce a Transport Coat was far in excess to money spent on an A2/
If any of you ever get to handle a Transport Coat you will see just how well made it is, the quality of materials and the value for the cost.
The design is inspired by the old interwar mail pilots who ferried mail across the US, often in open cockpit, but also closed, but unheated aircraft, hence they needed something that allowed freedom of movement (hence the part Rayon lining to give that ease of movement a pilot needs), but also the Alpaca lining for warmth too. Got the great storm cuffs and the huge mouton collar to pull up when it got really cold!
