Original WWII U.S. Navy Emergency Fishing Kit No.5 by Horrocks-Ibbotson Co. - dated July 1943

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Available. This is a very nice U.S. Navy WWII Emergency Fishing Kit No.5, used by serviceman, presumably after they had to abandon ship for some reason. In the sea, their only source of food would be rations on hand, and fish, so to survive an extended time at sea, fishing was the only option for food, as well as the water the fish contained.  The kit is a nice OD Green HBT roll, containing various fishing hooks, lures, and lines. There is also some dehydrated bait, as well as instructions on how to use the kit.

The case is marked faintly on the outside, with a "43" in the contract number, indicating the year of manufacture.

EMERGENCY FISHING KIT No. 5
PURCHASE ORDER No. (535) 43-22409-P
MONTH OF MANUFACTURER - JULY
MANUFACTURED BY HORROCKS-IBBOTSON CO.

The condition is very nice, with the expected wear from age and service. There are some rust and mildew stains on the carrier, which also has some small tears and wear. Some of the contents do show exposure to water. The knife that is normally part of this kit is missing, probably taken out to use apart from the rest of the kid.

A very interesting bit of WWII Survival gear, ready to display!
