  • Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is a genuine WWII Era license plate from the Camp Hood U.S. Army Installation, located in Texas, today known as Fort Hood.

During World War II, tank destroyers were developed to counter German mobile armored units. These were mobile anti-tank guns on armored halftracks or specially developed tanks. Wide-open space was needed for the tank destroyer testing and training, which Texas had in abundance. Andrew Davis (A.D.) Bruce was assigned to organize a new Tank Destroyer Tactical and Firing Center, and he chose Killeen, Texas for the new camp. The War Department announced the selection on 15 January 1942.  It was completed in September 1942, and commenced operations. After WWII, it was made a permanent training installation in 1950, and renamed Fort Hood.

The plate measures approximately 11" x 2 3/4" and features white letters on a red background, reading:

    CAMP HOOD
    6319

Offered in very good condition, with wear from use and age. Ready to display!
