Original Item: Only One Available. While most think of WWII as being firmly in the era of Telephone and Radio, Telegraph signals were still used in many situations. They could be used to send coded transmissions which were hard to intercept, and didn't suffer from the same level of problems from signal degradation and noise that voice communications did.
This is a very nice example of a WWII Issue U.S. Army Signal Corps TG-5-B Telegraph set, which looks to be complete, and is in very good used condition. It still has the original data plate on the top, which gives all of the information regarding the item, including a 1944 contract date:
SIGNAL CORPS
TELEGRAPH SET TG-5-B
SER. NO. 2729 CAKU ORDER NO. 9753-PHILA-44
There is no maker mark on the label, but part of the electronics is labeled with:
KURMAN ELECTRIC CO.
NEW YORK CITY
U. S. A.
The set looks to be in complete functional condition, and we cannot see any components which have degraded or melted. It comes complete with an original earpiece, as well as a battery, though it is almost certainly no longer good. There is also most likely oxidation on contact and other components, so it most likely would need a servicing before it could be used. The case has a bit of a bend near the top rear hinge, so it does not close securely anymore. This could probably be repaired, but we have left it is to preserve the history of the piece.
A great piece of communications equipment from WWII, ready to display!
