  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent example of the Swiss Model 1943 Officer's Dagger, complete with the original scabbard and red / white portepee. As with other examples we have seen, it is marked on the blade ricasso with serial number 255544, with maker Elsener / Schwyz / Victoria marked on the other side.

Karl Elsener was a Swiss cutler, inventor and entrepreneur. Karl Elsener completed an apprenticeship as a knife maker in Zug. After some journeyman years he opened a factory in Ibach, Switzerland in 1884 for the manufacture of knives and surgical instruments. He started production of the Swiss army knife in Switzerland in 1891 and developed his knife manufacturing company into what has become Victorinox.

After him his son, Carl Elsener (1886-1950), and his grandson Carl Elsener senior (1922-2013) and his great-grandson Carl Elsener Jr. (born 1958) led the Victorinox company.

The dagger features a spear point double edged blade, with a "stiletto" dagger type profile showing a center ridge. This is attached to a nickel plated alloy handle with a wide crossguard, fitted with fruit wood grips secured by three bolts with split nuts. The pommel is secured by a keyed nut. The dagger is in excellent condition, showing only light wear from storage, and the blade still shows virtually all of the original factory final grind cross grain, very similar to those on German WWII daggers. The original edge is still present and sharp. With the total absence of rust, we believe the blade is most likely Stainless Steel, the material usually used to make these daggers.

The steel scabbard is also in great shape, showing almost no wear with the black enamel finish retained at nearly 100%, with just a bit of chipping around the square bottom knob. The rear of the scabbard is stamped another "S" marking, one we are not familiar with. Above this is the leather hanger strap with a nickel silver buckle which is still attached to the illusive leather belt loop hanger.

A fantastic example of a hard to find Swiss Officer's Dagger, complete with the original scabbard and ready to display!
