Original Item: Only One Available. The M33 Helmet (Elmetto Mod. 33 in Italian) is a steel combat helmet designed in the 1930s in Italy, and was the standard combat helmet of the Regio Esercito up to World War II, and of the Esercito Italiano well into the Cold War. Designed by Nicola Leszl for the Mussolini Government, these have become extremely hard to find on the collectors market today, especially WWII examples that have not been refurbished.
This example is painted to the front with a stencil depicting a crown over rope and crossed flags with the numeral 5 in the center. The flags and rope lead us to believe this would have been worn by a signalman, likely in the 5th Signal Battalion or something similar. The exterior paint shows good honest service wear with scattered oxidation spotting.
The interior shows the original leather liner still intact, although it does not appear to have a Z-stitch, so it’s possible it was later replaced post-war. The liner has the correct rectangular chinstrap mounting bales and the correct wartime leather chinstrap with the correct buckle. The liner is perforated with the size, 58. The rear brim of the helmet is stamped B225.
A very nice example of the Italian M33 helmet from WWII with a very interesting stencil, ready to display!
