Original Item: Only One Available. The M33 Helmet (Elmetto Mod. 33 in Italian) is a steel combat helmet designed in the 1930s in Italy, and was the standard combat helmet of the Regio Esercito up to World War II, and of the Esercito Italiano well into the Cold War. Designed by Nicola Leszl for the Mussolini Government, these have become extremely hard to find on the collectors market today, especially WWII examples that have not been refurbished.
This is a very interesting variation with four ventilation holes instead of the regular three. We have found very little reference to these, but most collectors refer to them erroneously as “Prototype” when there were most likely just a wartime variation.
The front of the helmet has a stenciled insignia of a white star with a small red medical cross in the center. The star appears to be backed by a blue shape which almost appears to be an anchor, but it is difficult to say for certain. A good research project. The rear skirt is marked with a name, Mori?
The original liner is retained with heavy wear to the leather, and there is a worn canvas chinstrap with an oxidized buckle that appears to be a period depot replacement
as it has a different buckle and canvas type than post war chinstraps.
A great and scare 4-vent M33 with a medical stencil, ready for further research and display.
