  • Original Item: Only One Available. Toward the end of WWII Imperial Japan was starved of raw materials and factories. The need for more equipment was dire and the IJA used what was available. This is an extremely rare very, very last ditch Civil Defense Helmet which was issued for use in the Imperial Japanese Army. The Japanese WWII Civil Defense helmet was the final of four variations of the Type 90 Army helmet and was designed specifically for mainland civil defense.

This is one of the crudest Japanese helmets from the final days of WWII. The helmet appears to be pressed from zinc or pot metal, with a crude canvas strap liner secured to the shell by three bales and held together by a tie string. The chinstrap is canvas example with the ties still in place. This is one of the more interesting last ditch / civil defense helmets we have had, and there is a hole in the shell which likely had a star device attached at one point.

Overall condition is very good with correct green paint. There is some scuffing and overall wear, giving it an overall lovely used patina.

This is a rare and little known variation of the military issue type 90 Tetsubo helmet, making this example a necessity for any Japanese WWII headgear collection.
