  • Original Item: Only One Available. Toward the end of WWII Imperial Japan was starved of raw materials and factories. The need for more equipment was dire and the IJA used what was available. This is an extremely rare very, very last ditch Civil Defense Helmet which was issued for use in the Imperial Japanese Army. This example is very unusual, with a plastic-style shell put together with a steel trim. It looks almost medieval in design, and is fitted with a leather liner and thin leather chinstrap.

This is one of the crudest Japanese helmets from the final days of WWII. The underside of the rear visor has an embossed maker’s mark, which is too worn now for us to translate.

There is some heavy cracking in the base as shown, and oxidation on the steel trim. A very good example overall worthy of further research.
