Original WWII Imperial Japanese Navy Wall Mounted Electric Ship Alarm Bell - dated 1944

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. It's a sound many remember, though more likely from fire alarms or going to school: the sound of a rapidly ringing alarm bell. On a ship during WWII it was just as effective at grabbing the attention of the crew, usually followed by an announcement regarding the reason for the alarm.

This is a very nice World War Two Imperial Japanese Navy wall-mounted electric ship alarm bell. When in use on a vessel, it would be connected to the electrical systems of the ship and actuated remotely. This example has an electrical plug attached to it, however we are fairly certain that this is post war, as these were not "plugged in" on board, but directly wired. We have not tested it to see if it is still functional.

It still has intact markings on the front side, including various manufacture codes on the housing, and two data plates giving the specifications of the alarm bell. The larger of the two has a Japanese date that reads 昭 和 19 年 02 月  - Showa 19 (1944) 2nd Month (February). Measures approximately 14" x 9" x 7 1/2". Offered in very good display condition.
