Original WWII German DLV - NSFK Miniature Glider Pilot's Dagger with Scabbard

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available The National Socialist Flyers Corps (Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps; NSFK) was a paramilitary organization of the NSDAP Party that was founded 15 April 1937 as a successor to the German Air Sports Association (Deutscher Luftsport Verband; DLV); the latter had been active during the years when a German air force was forbidden by the Treaty of Versailles. The NSFK organization was based closely on the para-military organization of the Sturmabteilung (SA). A similar group was the National Socialist Motor Corps (NSKK).

During the early years of its existence, the NSFK conducted military aviation training in gliders and private airplanes. Friedrich Christiansen, originally a Generalleutnant then later a Luftwaffe General der Flieger, was NSFK Korpsführer from 15 April 1937 until 26 June 1943, followed by Generaloberst Alfred Keller until 8 May 1945.

Like all of the NSDAP German paramilitary organizations, they were issued various ceremonial items to instill loyalty, such as daggers for the NSFK Glider Pilots, which were worn with the dress uniform. They also produced miniature versions such as what we have here, scaled down so they would fit in a pocket, and could possibly also double as letter openers.

This example looks to have seen light service, and the plated fittings now have a dark tarnished patina. They look to be the early war silver plated nickel alloy type, and are really in great shape, with almost all of the plating still intact. The pommel cap is the three-stage type often used on the full sized dagger. The crossguard has a very crisp center block featuring round medallions with a swas (hook cross) on both sides, and has downward sweeping tripartate arms.

The grip is a nice tapered dark blue Moroccan leather over wood, as also used on Luftwaffe Swords and 1st Pattern daggers. It is in great shape, with no scuffs, damage, or lifting at the seam. The blade is nickel plated steel, and shows little signs of use. The edges are blunt, as they were when they left the factory, and there is just a bit of runner wear and oxidation on the plating.

The scabbard, like the rest of the dagger, is in great shape. The plated fittings have a lovely dark tarnished patina, and there is very little wear overall. There are no dents that we can see, and the leather cover is retained completely.

This is the first example of a miniature NSFK - DLV dagger that we have had, and it really is in great shape. Ready to add to your collection and display!
