Original WWII German Army Heer Officer Dagger by E. & F. Hörster

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This Army Officer's Dagger recently came in from a veteran family and is totally untouched. Some of the silvering is intact which is not common on many Hörster pieces.

The pommel is nice, showing some wear around the edges but with no major issues. The pommel oak leaves are interesting in that this pommel is the style with twelve leaves.

The crossguard is textbook style Hörster. This guard features a very noble eagle who looks to the viewer's left with very close hand checkered breast feathering. The guard on this dagger is very intricate. The detail throughout the design of the bird is really impressive. The silvering is found in some locations.

The white grip is most pleasing. It is a solid celluloid type and is in good condition. It is darker in color on the reverse.

The scabbard is good, being straight throughout and with matching patination. The pebbled pattern is quite fine on this scabbard. The bands feature overlapping oak leaves with hand done accents. The throat of this example is slightly unusual in that both sides of the throat cantilever over the scabbard edges quite a bit. The single screw is the flat head steel type.

The blade is lovely. Almost mirror bright in places with 50% graining in the surfaces. The tip remains needle-like. The reverse of the blade is etched at the ricasso with the classic Hörster/Solingen trademark.

The original-to-the piece portepee remains set in place in the proper tie. There is fray and the knot remains in solid condition, a sure sign that this dagger saw usage.
