Original WWII German 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger by Robert Klaas with Belt Hanger - Named USGI Bring Back

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is part of an excellent bring back collection recently purchased directly the family. It is a fine Solingen-Produced example made by Robert Klaas, and comes complete with a belt hanger in excellent condition. The grip of this 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger is a nice antiqued white color and in fine condition. It remains in nearly perfect condition throughout, and is tightly wrapped with twisted brass wire. It has not faded to a different color, which some types of grip material would over the years.

The hilt mounts are similarly great on this dagger. The pommel is crisp and excellent. The swas on both sides is extremely bold, and the oak leaves around it is raised out and heavily hand enhanced. The pommel also has much of the original factory blackening in the backgrounds.

The crossguard is the style that goes with this type of pommel, having the eagle with a breast and talon area that is vaulted out much more so than the normal crossguards we see. This guard shows little wear and has excellent feathering on the eagle. The bird, of course, flies to the left and grasps a mobile swas in his talons. The reverse panel is decorated with small pebbling and still has a good portion of the original factory blackening, particularly around the protected areas at the edges. The ferrule is a fine, steel example. A really great hilt here!

This scabbard is a fine, straight example, having a good aged zinc plating, though it has worn off in some areas, with some past pitting a few inches from the bottom on the rear and side. The bands are well defined and have outstanding hand enhanced oak leaves tipped at a 45 degree angle. The throat is retained by a two steel screws.

The blade on this example is not nickel plated, which is common for later produced blades, and it bears the maker name of ROBT. KLAAS SOLINGEN, along with their trademark opposed stork logo above. The blade is in very good condition, with a lot of the factory cross grain polish still intact, indicating the blade was never sharpened. There is some light corrosion on areas due to age. Additionally, an engraving pen was used to mark the Army Serial Number Charles Rotter, the soldier that brought them back: CO 324247207.

CW4 Charles G. Rotter USA who in his long career patrolled the US/Mexico border on horseback as a Cavalryman, served as an M4 Tank Commander in WWII, missed Korea, and served in Vietnam as a Logistician to include supporting Montagnard tribes fighting alongside the US SF troops. A fascinating professional soldier who followed his military time by serving a second career as a Zookeeper at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, CO.

Comes complete with genuine original hangers that are in excellent condition with no major tears or fraying. The Back of the buckle is marked DRGM, indicating it was a trademarked design.

This really is a really great 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger, offered in very nice condition, personalized to the soldier who brought it back from Germany.
