Original WWII German 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger by F. W. Höller of Solingen

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a very nice example of a German WWII 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger. It is a fine Solingen-Produced example made by F. W. Höller Waffenfabrik, one of the better makers out there. The celluloid grip of this dagger has faded to a nice creamy orange color and is in fine condition. It remains in great condition throughout, with the original coiled silver wire wrapping intact. There is however a small chip near the pommel, but otherwise it looks great.

The hilt mounts are similarly great on this dagger. The aluminum pommel is crisp and excellent. The swass on both sides are extremely bold, and the oak leaves around it is raised out and heavily hand enhanced. The pommel also has much of the original factory blackening in the backgrounds.

The crossguard is made of Aluminum, which was an "Air Age" material, which was used to make most airplanes. It was considered fitting and desirable for the eagle-shaped guard to be made of this material. The front side is an eagle with a breast and talon area that is vaulted out much more so than the crossguards seen on other types of daggers. This guard shows little wear and has excellent feathering on the eagle. The bird, of course, flies to the left and grasps a mobile swas in his talons. The reverse panel is decorated with small pebbling and still has a good portion of the original factory blackening. The grip side of the cross guard has very nice engraved oak leaf designs. The ferrule looks to be solid nickel silver, and is still excellent.

This scabbard is a fine, straight example, having a good aged nickel plating, with a lovely patina. There is some plating missing, as well as some lifting, but nothing out of the ordinary. The bands are well defined and have outstanding hand enhanced oak leaves tipped at a 45 degree angle. The throat is retained by a single steel screw on the back.

The blade on this example is not nickel plated, which is common for later produced blades, and the reverse ricasso bears the maker name of F. W. HÖLLER / SOLINGEN, surrounding the trademark Höller "Thermometer" emblem. This is a well-known maker from Solingen, the famous "City of Blades" in Western Germany, which produced many fine edged weapons. The blade is in very good condition, with a lot of the factory cross grain polish still intact, indicating the blade was never sharpened or heavily polished. There is some light corrosion throughout due to age, but nothing major. The original pebbled leather blade buffer is in place within the deep recesses of the guard.

This really is a really great 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger, offered in nice condition, ready to display!
