Original WWII U.S. Navy Coston-Sedgley 37mm Flare Parachute Signal Flare Pistol - Dated 1942

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fine example of a WWII dated U.S. Navy Coston-Sedgley 37mm Parachute Signal Flare Pistol, with a 7 1/2 inch alloy barrel. These were made in various configurations by R. F. Sedgley Inc. of Philadelphia.

The flare pistol is marked on the left side of the barrel and barrel base with the maker and date information:

PT "S" 10. 29. 42.

Additionally, there is a patent marking on left side of frame that reads PAT 8-22-32. The inside of the breech is also marked with serial number 6224, indicating that this has not had any parts swapped out.

The U.S. Navy model has a composite plastic checkered grip area, with circled USN on both sides, as compared to the circled S on regular issue versions.

Condition is quite good, especially considering this is a Navy issued model, which was exposed to the salty sea air. The alloy barrel is missing a good deal of the original black paint, and does have some areas of corrosion on the exterior and bore. The hinge and release catch are steel, and do have rust on them, as they corrode much more easily than the alloy barrel. The plastic grip is in great shape, with just a bit of wear and chipping on the bottom. The lanyard ring and rear securing screw are also somewhat rusty, but intact.

Functions well, and firing pin is definitely operational. A great addition to any WWII U.S. Navy collection!
