Original WWII Canadian Fiber Shell Dispatch Rider Helmet by Backstay Standard dated 1944 - Size 7 1/2

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good condition original WWII Canadian Fiber Shell Dispatch Rider helmet, made by Backstay Standard in 1944. These were made as a lighter alternative to the steel shell version, and had the advantage of being lighter and using less in terms of materials. They are made from pressed resin-impregnated fiber, not unlike the liners for U.S. M1 Helmets, though these are definitely of thicker construction.
Shell has original paint with no major dents or dings that we can see, just light wear from use and storage. The leather liner and chinstrap assembly are soft and supple, with light wear to the interior and the exterior finish. It does not look to have been worn much, if at all.
The leather liner is nicely maker marked BS inside a circle, the marking for Backstay Standard and Co. of Ontario, Canada. To the left of this is the 44 date, and to the right the size 7 1/2. There is a Canadian "Broad Arrow in C" marking stamped on the top of the shell, and also there is a mold marking of DTR / L43 molded into the inside of the shell.
Condition is very good, though there is definitely wear from age. The rubber padding around the liner is crumbling, and the leather has lost some of the finish on the outside.
This is a great example of the classic WWII Canadian Fiber Shell Dispatch Rider helmet, that will make a great addition to any collection.
