The old man was no fool, he only bought the best, mostly sterling silver but a few in hall marked gold. Each Broach displays the emblem of the Soldier's Regiment. The Royal Naval Air Service was formed in 1909, three years later the Army followed with The Royal Flying Corp in 1912. In 1924 the Naval Air Service became The Fleet Air Arm and at the beginning of WW2 they had just 232 Aircraft but by the close of WW2 they had 3,700 and 59 Aircraft Carriers.
This Sweet Heart Broach is gilt and displays the service's Cap Badge of King's Crown picked out in red enamel over gilt fouled anchor in laurel wreath picked out in blue enamel with outstretched wings to left and right picked out in white enamel, most impressive.
Measures just over 1.5" in width.
