The old man was no fool, he only bought the best, mostly sterling silver but a few in hall marked gold. Each Broach displays the emblem of the Soldier's Regiment. The King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment raised in Tangier in 1680 as the Earl of Plymouth's Regiment of Foot, later in 1751 becoming known as the 4th (King's Own) Regiment of Foot. Seeing service at the battle of Namur in 1695, this Regiment sustained the most casualties if the British Army at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. It served in the American War of Independence, the Peninsula War and at Waterloo. At Alma, Inkerman and Sevastopol in the Crimea as well as the Indian Mutiny. It took part in the 1879 Anglo-Zulu War and later the Boer War as well as World Wars One and Two.

This Broach features the Regimental Crown over laurel wreath festooned with ribbons each bearing a battle honor. All supported on a silver Sword running behind from left to right. On the rear can be found the Silver Hall marks.
