Original Items: Only One Set of 6 Available. Political cartoons, often full of humorous caricatures of major figures, are one of the most enduring forms of political commentary, in use around the world. During wartime however, these often become far more pointed, often used both as a source of humor but also as home front propaganda and morale boosters. This is a great set of 6 anti-axis political cartoon post cards, which show a great range of the various types in use during wartime around the world. The post cards all measure approximately 3 1/2" x 5 1/2", and only one of the 6 has been mailed.
This lovely set includes:
● One U.S. "TO MY BRAVE SOLDIER BOY" post card, showing a cowering yellow and green Adolf H at the business end of a fixed bayonet held by what looks to be a USGI.
● One U.S. "DERE GOEBELS: DER HUNTIN' HERE IS TERRIBLE" post card, showing Adolf H being chased by a large bear, representing the Soviet Union and NSDAP Germany's failed attempt to invade it.
● One U.S. "I'M GOING TO WIPE THEM OUT" post card, showing a roll of toilet paper with Axis leaders Benito Mussolini, Hideki Tojo, and Adolf H on it.
● One U.S. "LIFE IN THE MARINES IS TOUGH - BUT I'M MAKING A GOOD STAB AT IT!" post card, showing a U.S. Marine with a rifle and fixed bayonet jabbing a Japanese soldier in the rear.
● One U.S. "GO TO IT, SOLDIER BOY" post card, showing a caricature of Hideki Tojo on a fence, all in yellow, with a woman throwing a rolling pin at it. This is a morale booster, letting the soldiers know that the home front would also love to be throwing things at the Japanese.
The last post card is one that was actually filled out and mailed to what looks to be Cpl. Tony Aliano, and has a stamp and SAN JOSE CALIF post mark dated AUG 26 1943. It lets Aliano know that his brother and family are behind him. The post card itself looks to show a Japanese soldier running from a hail of small and large arms fire, with the caption "WEATHER REPORT: HOT IN LOWER REGIONS FOLLOWING HEAVY REIGN!". The teeth of the soldier have been partly filled in with pencil, to make them look gap toothed.
A fantastic set of political cartoon post cards, one of which has some great research potential. Ready to display!
