  • Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a very nice set of U.S. Navy Binoculars, as used during both world wars, complete with a nice service worn leather case. These are less advanced than the typical types developed during WWII, and are very similar to the types used around the world. They are marked on the rear plates of the barrels. One side is marked around an "Anchor" logo:

    U.S. NAVAL GUN FACTORY
    OPTICAL ANNEX SHOP
    ROCHESTER, N.Y.

    The other side reads:

    BUREAU OF NAVIGATION
    6X30
    U.S. NAVY

On the other side they are also marked with U.S. NAVY and serial number  O-I6388. Fully closed, the binoculars measure approximately 4 1/2"H x 6 1/4"W x 2 1/4", and are of sturdy brass construction. They come complete with their original leather neck strap still intact, with moderate deterioration from age and use.

The leather covering is in great shape, with just a bit of wear and discoloration. The focus adjustment works without any issues, both eyepiece diopters adjusting easily. They eyepieces are in great shape, and they have built in amber sun filters, which swing into place by using a knurled adjustment on the side. The lens on one of the filter is unfortunately cracked.

The included leather case is made from leather covered pressed paper, and does show service wear, with cracks through the lid and other areas. The leather shoulder strap is broken off on both sides, and the original leather covered spring latch for the lid is also missing all of the leather and the latch. The remaining leather components are somewhat delicate. The case does however have one really neat feature: there is a working compass inlaid into the top of the lid. Measures approximately 6 1/4"H x 7 1/4"W x 3 1/4".

The optics are still very clear, making this a very nice example of the typical binoculars used by the U.S. Navy during WWI. Ready to display!
