Item Description
Original Item: One-of-a-kind. During WWI & WWII, there were many soldiers deployed into foreign countries, which often made them eligible to win various victory medals, in addition to any medals they would receive from their home country's armed forces. This is a lovely set of 6 such medals, obtained from a collector who was downsizing.
All of the medals come with their original ribbon, and are in very good condition. They would make a great start to any military medal collection.
This fine set includes the following 6 awards:
- WWI French Republique Francais Grande Guerre 1914-1918 Victory Medal with Ribbon. Issued by the French Republic for service during the Great War 1914-1918 after WWI.
- WWI Austria-Hungary Franz Joseph 1848-1908 Jubilee Bronze Cross with Ribbon Pin. This award was issued to commemorate the 60th year of Emperor Franz Joseph I's reign, also known as a "Diamond Jubilee." There were many different designs issued, with Bronze for enlisted men, and Silver for Officers.
- WWI Czechoslovakian Volunteer's Memorial Cross (Pamětní Kříž Československého Dobrovolce), 1918-1919 with Ribbon. Marked on the back with V TĚŽKÝCH DOBÁCH (in difficult times), this award was created in 1920 by the Czechoslovak government to reward volunteer combatants who fought to protect the frontiers of the new Czech state established at the end of World War I, especially in Slovakia against the Hungarian Bolshevik forces of Bela Kun.
- WWI Serbian WWI Commemorative Liberation Medal For The War 1914-1918 with Ribbon. This was awarded to soldiers who fought during WWI for Serbia, and it features the face of King Petar I facing right circumscribed ‘Petar I King of Serbia’ in cyrillic. It also bears the dates 1914, 1915, 1916, 1917, and 1918. The Medal was instituted in 1920 and was be awarded to Serbian and Montenegrin military personnel who had participated in WW1 and also to members of the Allied forces who had contributed to the liberation of Serbia.
- WWII French Order of Liberation Medal with Ribbon. This rectangular medal has a Gladius sword on both sides, with a black enamel "Cross of Lorraine" on the front, the symbol of the Free French Forces. The back of the metal reads in Latin PATRAM SERVANDO VICTORIUM TULIT ("By serving the Fatherland, he/she achieved Victory").
- WWII Czechoslovakian Army Service Abroad 1939-1945 Commemorative Medal with ribbon. The read of the medal is marked ČESKOSLOVENSKÁ ARMÁDA V ZAHRANIČÍ 1939 1945, and was issued by the Czechoslovakian Government to soldiers who fought in exile against German Forces. It was also bestowed on members of the Allied Armies who participated in the fighting in Czechoslovakia during World War II.
