Original Item: Only One Available. This is a totally original authentic Imperial German WWI Naval War Ensign Battle Flag, with a large Balkenkreuz (Beam Cross) in the field, with a circle around the Imperial German Eagle at the intersection of the cross. The canton of the flag contains the imperial state colors and the Prussian Eisernes Kreuz (Iron Cross). The flag is made of cotton or linen, the standard material for flags of the period.
The flag measures 23" tall and 36" across, which means is one of the smaller sizes used. The flag header is canvas, with a label marked QUAL. per MARIN, and has a halyard rope running through it. The top is sewn in a loop, and has a metal swivel hanger installed, while the lower halyard extends out of the header. This flag is definitely within the size range of flags flown by U-Boats, who understandably could not fly the huge flags of larger capital ships.
This flag is in very good condition, with only minimal age toning and some staining on the header. It is one of the most attractive issued during WWI, and would make a great display piece.
