Original WWI German or British Military Drum Stick marked 1915 / 1916 / 1917

Original Item: One of Kind. Just acquired from a European World War One Collection, when first viewed in the photographs we thought this was a TRENCH CLUB. However, once the Collection arrived it was clear that we were mistaken. This is in fact a field DRUM STICK of short stubby proportions, measuring just 12" in overall length. The is a horizontal hole in the grip to accommodate a leather wrist thong and along it's wood shaft are carved the three dates 1915, 1916 and 1917. Additionally it is marked with three "III" and an "X".
This could be German or it could be British, but either way it saw service in WWI probably in the trenches on the Western Front. It must have made quite a nice when used with a field drum. Ready to display!
