  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice condition U.S. Navy summer color "Bell Crown" visor cap, intended to be work by Enlisted Men for dress and parade occasions. The name comes from the pronounced flare out towards the top of the cap. This cap is summer weight, and is constructed of wool fabric stretched over a wicker inner frame. It is a great WWI Era OD green color, which has more tan than later variants used in WWII. It features a nice forest green cap band, which has retained the color well

The cap features a patent leather visor with, probably supported by pressed paper or fabric. The brown faux leather sweatband is stitched to the body of the hat, and is in very good shape. We looked for a size, but unfortunately there were no markings there. The crown of the cap is lined with black satin fabric, and is marked as follows around and inside a triangle:

    TRADE MARK
    ALCO
    BRAND
    REG. U.S. PAT. OFF
    PATENTED MAY 19, 1914

The markings are in silver paint, much of which has come off, but the reflection can be used to read it.

The front of the cap bears the correct gold "fouled anchor" badge with USN on it, with a black leather adjustable chinstrap with two USN side buttons. No major moth issues to report, the hat is sound, not crushed or broken. We estimate the size to be 7 1/4 or so in size.

A great example to pick up a rare cap from the WWI Era!
