Item Description
Original Items: One Pair Only. This is a great matching set of Trench Art decorated shell casings. They are both marked 75 DE C on the bottom, indicating they are for the Canon 75 de Campagne, also known as the Canon de 75 modèle 1897. These are substantial standing, 13 3/4" in height and 3 3/8" across the bottoms. The projectile openings are a bit distorted, but both measure approximately 75mm in widthm and they are made of the standard heavy yellow brass. Both have Specifications still present on the bottom ends and each is very nicely decorated with engraved designs, including Grape Vines with leaves at the top and bottom of each. Probably intended as flower Vases.
One is dated 1914 - 1917 and CHAMPAGNE amid the foliage. The second of identical size is not quite as ornately decorated and is dated 1914 - 1916. BOth also have large monograms on the side, which appear to be JL and OL, though we cannot be sure. Both are nicely polished having been on display in some Veteran's home for close to 100 years.
Most attractive and ready to display or hold flowers.
