Original Item: Only One Available. This is a great example of a Post Vietnam War era
West German-made M7 bayonet known as Colt’s “New Model” by Colt. The bayonet comes with an M8A1 scabbard by VIZ. The M7 bayonet (NSN 1095-00-017-9701) is a bayonet that was used by the U.S. military for the M16 rifle, it can also be used with the M4 carbine as well as many other assault rifles, carbines, and combat shotguns. It can be used as a fighting knife and utility tool. It was introduced in 1964, when the M16 rifle entered service during the Vietnam War.
This knife-style bayonet was based on the M4 bayonet for the M1 Carbine, which was itself based on the M3 fighting knife. The M7 is almost identical, except for the much larger muzzle ring to go over the M16's flash hider. This example is nicely marked on the blade with Colt's "rampant horse" logo, followed by COLT'S 62316 / HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A. / MADE IN W.-GERMANY. The crossguard is stamped US M7.
The blade is in fair condition with some light oxidation and wear. It is still very sharp. It still has the original phosphate finish almost fully intact. Grips are the standard hard black checkered phenolic type, and they are in excellent condition, with no cracks or chips, pretty much unissued save for a bit of oxidation.
Comes with an OD green fiber scabbard marked U.S. M8A1 / VIZ also in offered in very good condition. This design features a thermoplastic impregnated cotton fabric body, metal throat, and canvas frog with a securing strap and steel pistol belt hook. It was manufactured by Viz Manufacturing Co. of Philadelphia, PA, who only made these scabbards during 1969. The canvas is in great shape, with a functional securing strap and moderate service wear.
The perfect accessory for any Vietnam War issue M16 Rifle.
