Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very good inert example of the stick fragmentation grenade associated with North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong forces during the Vietnam War. It combines a compact wooden handle with a segmented pineapple style fragmentation body and measures approximately 8¾ inches overall.

This grenade is completely inert and has been permanently deactivated in accordance with current ATF guidelines. It contains no explosive material, cannot function as originally designed, and cannot be converted into an explosive device. It is not available for export.

The metal grenade body has the deeply segmented exterior commonly described as a pineapple pattern. This construction was intended to create fragmentation when the original explosive charge detonated.

A standard of the Vietnam War, this is the typical pattern of NVA / VC moderately sized-handle "pineapple" body stick fragmentation grenade. The grenade is in fine to excellent condition, with both the body and stick very clean. The body was attached to the stick with 4 nails, with three of them still in place. The end cap is gone and looking down the shaft you can see remnants of a cardboard tube.

Short handle fragmentation grenades of this general type were used by Communist forces during the Vietnam War. Their compact construction made them easier to carry than longer German style stick grenades while retaining the familiar wooden handle and segmented fragmentation body.

Considerable variation exists among surviving North Vietnamese and Viet Cong grenades. They were produced by different factories and workshops and may differ in body casting, handle construction, fastening methods, internal components, and markings.

No maker, factory, date, unit, or capture information is visible on this example. It can therefore be identified as a Vietnam War era pattern associated with NVA and Viet Cong use, but it cannot be attributed conclusively to one particular force, factory, or battlefield location.

The pineapple fragmentation body, short wooden handle, three surviving attachment nails, visible cardboard tube remnants, and compact profile preserve the principal features of this Vietnam War era grenade. The missing end cap and absent fourth nail are the primary condition issues, but the clean body and intact handle make it a strong representative example of Communist Vietnamese field ordnance.
