A standard of the Vietnam War, this is the typical pattern of NVA / VC short-handle "pineapple" body stick fragmentation grenade. Both grenades are in fine to excellent condition. One has both the body and stick very clean. The stick retains the wooden plug, which is often lost, and still has the wax sealant.
The North Vietnamese Army and the Viet Cong employed a variety of two and four cell hand grenade pouches. Their pouches could hold either long or short-handled stick grenades. This set includes two short-handled stick grenades, with one handle unfortunately not included.
This grenade carrier is made out of canvas, and it is still in good condition with some signs of wear and useThe majority were made of a heavy, loosely woven canvas, but some were made of cotton poplin. Canvas or poplin shoulder straps were used. All of them used a long tie to secure the hand grenade handle to the pouch's body.. Cotton material was sewn around the edges of many of them. The color of the trim was frequently different from the color of the pouch's body. These were made from available materials to be issued for the long march to the South, so matching colors, a collector's notion, were not important.
