Original Item: Only One Available. This is an interesting original North Vietnamese NVA sun helmet, commonly referred to by collectors as a pith helmet, displaying the construction features generally associated with early-1970s production. Its exact issue date cannot be confirmed, so it may date from the later Vietnam War period or the early postwar years.
The helmet has the characteristic low-dome profile, with a vinyl-type chinstrap stretched taut across the brim. The interior retains its green-painted fiber suspension system, another feature associated with helmets of this period.
The helmet retains a maker’s label inside around the ventilation washer reading:
TONG CUC HAU CAN
X32
Tổng Cục Hậu Cần refers to the General Department of Logistics, while X32 appears as the associated factory, production, or supply designation on the label.
The suspension is in good shape overall, and the chinstrap looks great over the brim. This helmet doesn’t look to have ever had a front badge, which is common to see.
The combination of the low-profile shell, taut vinyl-type chinstrap, green-painted fiber suspension, and surviving TONG CUC HAU CAN / X32 label makes this a useful representative example of North Vietnamese military headgear from the closing Vietnam War period or immediately afterward. The intact internal label is particularly valuable for identifying the helmet within the North Vietnamese military logistical system.
