  • Original Item: Only One Available. Under Shaka Zulu, the Zulu warrior carried a short stabbing spear with an approximate 8-10 inch blade over 1.5 inches wide fastened with wrapping to a 30" long wooden shaft.

The ZULU IKLWA is a shorter-style assegai. This weapon was known as the iklwa or ixwa - for the sound that was heard as it was withdrawn from the victim's wound. Made famous in the Zulu Wars of South Africa, as seen in the films "Zulu" and "Zulu Dawn" and used by the Zulu tribe during the Battle of Isandlwana, the Battle of Rorke's Drift, and the Battle of Ulundi during the Zulu war in 1879 South Africa.

Constructed of a steel tip with hide-like twine-reinforced socket and all wood shaft. There is additional twine wrapped at the bottom of the base of the spear. Very probably a Trooper's bring back after the Zulu Wars, a harrowing experience which really woke up Victorian England. The Zulu "Iklwa" is a must for Victorian history buffs or collectors of the Martini-Henry rifle.
