Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This lovely double barreled pocket percussion pistol was made in Liège, Belgium, almost certainly for the European and American export markets. These were quite popular for self-protection, and having two barrels definitely would give the owner increased protection. Pistols like this were equally at home on dark Streets of New York or of London in Victorian England. It features some lovely floral engraving on the sides of the lock, as well as on the tang of the receiver.
The smoothbore barrels measure just over 3" in length, and have grooves on the muzzle so they can be unscrewed, however they are currently frozen. Both have a lovely "faux Damascus" pattern on the outside, only decorative in this case, but usually would indicate a high end piece. Both barrels are marked with E / L G / * in an Oval proofs (right barrel is faint), indicating manufacture in Liège, Belgium. There are also CROWN / T inspection mark on the bottom of the frame by the barrels, a typical Belgian proof mark. Additionally next to this is serial number 113. The pistol measures 8" overall, there are no other markings we can see besides the proofs. The pistol features a very nice wooden "bag" style grip, which is very comfortable to hold. It looks to be made of lovely "burl" wood, though it could be just painted that way.
Condition of the pistol is very good, showing a lovely polished steel finish, with some areas of past peppering, now cleaned. This definitely looks to have seen a good amount of use during its service life. Both hammers will cock and dry fire, but neither has a half cock position at present, though they may have been made that way. The cap nipples are present, but definitely show a good amount of use.
A very nice early Victorian Era self defense pistol, ready to Display!
