Original Item. Only One Available. This is a rare example of a U.S. leaflet printed in Japanese to be dropped on Japanese forces to convince them to surrender, telling them that they fought well but fought in an unprovoked war started by the attack on Pearl Harbor without approval from the Emperor. This fact is incorrect, however, as Hirihito knew about Pearl Harbor. The leaflet comes with a 2 page letter sent by “Roy” of the 73rd Bomb Wing on Marianas to his parents, discussing V-J Day and the Japanese surrender on September 2nd, 1945.
The leaflet comes in a plastic sleeve with its direct translation printed above it, as well as the printed speech of President Harry Truman given on the 1st of September, 1945 announcing the coming end of the war. The leaflet itself measures roughly 5¼ x 8½”.
The letter is typewritten on Air Mail stationary for the 73rd Bomb Wing on Marianas Island, and is dated September 2nd, 1945, the day World War II ended. The subject of the letter is very typical and makes a great addition to this leaflet. This is a really stellar ephemera group ready for further research and display.
