  • Original Item: Only One Available. This World War II era poster features a striking image of a soldier with wounds on his right hand and left leg below the knee. The poster encourages Americans to purchase war bonds reminding them that "Care is costly."

The United States spent more than $300 billion supporting World War II by fighting the Axis powers and supplying our Allies. To fund this war, the United States Treasury issued war bonds that were purchased by Americans. The money raised was used to supply soldiers with uniforms, weapons, food and other things the military needed. To encourage citizens to purchase these bonds, the government created propaganda posters to advertise their availability and encourage support for war bonds from the home front.

The artist of the poster, Adolph Treidler (1886-1981), studied painting and drawing at the Henri School of Art in New York City. He created various posters for different governmental organizations during WWI, focusing on Liberty Loans posters and manufacturing efforts, particularly of women working in munitions plants. Treidler also worked on posters during WWII, as well as designing for magazines and advertising.

Poster measures 28" x 18 ½” and is offered in good condition with some edge wear and minor loss around the top and bottom borders. Original fold lines present with some minor separation, vibrant color, will make a great display, especially when framed.

Comes more than ready for display.
