Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. This is a great WAC Uniform grouping belonging to Technical Sergeant Marie Carter, who served with the Women’s Army Corps during World War II. The grouping includes her dog tags, medals in a discharge booklet, and a very thick binder of her discharge documents, photographs, other documents, and more. Carter served stateside during the war. “She worked in the Judge Advocate’s office, Fort Devens, Massachusetts, recorded the proceedings in shorthand of all special court martials and transcribed according to court procedures. Cut stencils of special court martial orders and marked them for distribution. Did all clerical work in connection with calling the court and notifying proper authorities of result of trial. Also took care of general office correspondence."
The grouping includes:
- Carter’s dog tags on their original chain. Shows NOK as Mr. James F. Carter of West Haven, Connecticut.
- Carter’s Technical Sergeant chevrons and Meritorious service wreaths.
- 1st Service Command patch.
- Sewing kit in box.
- “Honorable Discharge” booklet with photo of Carter and her medals including American campaign medal and victory medal with Good conduct ribbon. Newspaper clipping also inside.
- Very thick binder with dozens of documents and photos of Carter in uniform. Her original discharge is retained, documents, and a ton of great photos of Carter with friends in the service, wearing the patches present in the group. She is also pictured in some advertisements or WAC newspapers. Some great material here.
