Original U.S. WWII USMC Named P44 Camouflage Pattern 1944 Utility Uniform Coat & Trousers - With Pistol Belt and Suspenders

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good condition service worn Pattern 1944 United States Marine Corps Reversible Camouflage Utility Uniform Coat & Trouser set. This cotton HBT (Herring Bone Twill) Camouflage pattern uniform was issued to Marines at the end of WWII and during the Korean war. This pattern was seen as an improvement over the one-piece "jungle" coveralls, which lacking a drop seat, made "relieving yourself" difficult in combat situations. However, the Marines who wore the Camouflage on Tarawa and elsewhere were easy to spot when moving (as opposed to be stationary) and the pattern was discontinued. The Uniform Coat and pants were both designed to be reversible. The outer side is the base green "jungle" camouflage pattern, with the tan or "sand" side inside the jacket and pants.

The jacket is in very good service worn condition, which has unfortunately resulted in all the markings being worn away except for the names RJ MCMILLAN and MAY. All snaps and black U.S.M.C doughnut hole buttons are present and in good original condition, with light wear to the "blacked" finish. There is definitely wear and fading to the camouflage pattern, as well as some holes, repairs, and small stains, typical of a uniform that was used in the field. Like the regular P1944 utility jackets made of "sage green" HBT fabric, the jacket has trademark "side entry" pockets on the chest, which were originally intended for use with flotation "pillows", as well as carrying the usual paraphernalia of the typical combat Marine.

The trousers are in similar condition to the jacket, with possibly less fading, which would be common as they were less exposed to sun and other wear. All snaps and black U.S.M.C doughnut hole buttons are present and in good original condition, with light wear to the "blacked" finish. The reversible open bottom hip pockets on each side are intact, with all snaps working. The fabric shows some staining and has some small tears, as expected from use in service.

This is a great example of a USMC reversible camouflage P44 Uniform, one that looks like it was "really there. A very nice example, ready to add to your Pacific War collection!
