Original Items: One-of-a-kind set. USMC Sargent Jack C. Cryan USMC serial number 839522 was a member of the Marine Transport Squadron 252 (VMR-252) and as a flight mechanic participated in some of the most well known battles in the Pacific Theatre of WWII including the Mariana Islands (Air Raids) Awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, Iwo Jima (Sniper Fire & Banzi Charge), Luzon and the Battle of Okinawa (Air Raids & Sniper Fire) Awarded the Admirals Commendation.
Included in this wonderful grouping are the following items:
- Early War Red Spacer KA- BAR knife that is marked USMC JACK C. CRYAN 839522 in the fuller of the blade, as well as USMC on the right ricasso and on the other KA-BAR OLEAN. N.Y. The condition of the knife is excellent the blade still retains a razor sharp edges, the leather washer grip is in excellent condition as are the rare early red spacers used at both the top and bottom of the grip. Original leather sheath or scabbard is also in excellent condition, with the exception of a torn closure strap.
- Small “Service Record” book kept by Jack himself, that is completely filled out by CRYAN and documents the day of his indictment April 24, 1943, places visited, battles, memories, friends and so much more. One passage reads; “4-7-45 Still in 252. Am now on a Flight Crew. We fly all over the Pacific. Like my job swell. Best of anything I have done so far. But really looking forward to putting on civilian clothes once again for good.”
- Large “Service Record” book kept by his wife JoAnn Cryan dated Mayy 11, 1943 through February 1st, 1946. This book is also completely filled out, this acts like a diary/scrap book with dozens of photos of them both, notes, locations, battles, memories, anecdotes, new articles, etc.
- loads of photos, documents, manuals, pamphlets, tickets, etc…
All in all a really wonderful grouping from a Marine in the Air Wing that participated in some of the most famous battles of the Pacific during World War Two.
