Original Item: One-of-a-Kind. This is an exceptional framed U.S. Marine Corps WWII document grouping identified to Staff Sergeant Pleas Lisle Park, who served with 1st Battalion, 15th Marines, 6th Marine Division. The frame contains Park’s Marine Corps honorable discharge certificate together with a particularly unusual certificate commemorating his participation in the formal surrender of Japanese military forces at Tsingtao, China, on October 25, 1945.

The frame measures 16 ⅛ x 25 ⅛” and has some damage as shown, with dirt accumulation and heavy paint chipping to the frame itself. There is also much of the backing paper missing. The hanging wire is still intact, though.

In a period newspaper article we found that Park participated in the Battle of Guam, the Battle of Okinawa, and the Invasion of Guadalcanal. He was also on Saipan for a time.

The documents themselves remain the principal historical focus of the grouping and should ideally be protected from prolonged direct sunlight to limit further fading.

The combination of Staff Sergeant Pleas Lisle Park’s honorable discharge, his documented 1st Battalion, 15th Marines and 6th Marine Division service, and the unusual named certificate commemorating participation in the October 25, 1945 surrender of Japanese forces at Tsingtao makes this a particularly significant Marine Corps document grouping.
